This Means War!
Q. It seems like the more I seek to live for the Lord the harder He makes it for me. I can not understand why He allows such bad things to happen in my life. I preached to my wife and daughter and led them to Christ. But the more I turn to the Lord, it seems the more He turns away from me and crushes me, and now we are all depressed and despondent. Sometimes it scares me what God will allow in a persons life. How can I lead other people to Christ and say to them, just trust the Lord for the better, after what he’s done to me?
A. First of all, the person who taught you that God allows these things into your life didn’t do you any favors because now you’re blaming Him for them and He’s just as upset about it as you are. 1 John 5:19 tells us that even though we’re children of God the whole world is under the control of the evil one. He’s the one you should be blaming.
As long as you keep blaming God these things will continue to happen because by blaming Him you’re losing your faith and that’s just what the devil wants. You’re playing right into his hands.
Second, Jesus said that we’d have trouble in this world, but to take heart because He has overcome the world (John 16:33) That means we’re not supposed to let our troubles in this world discourage us to the point of defeat because we have a great reward coming in the next one.
Third, I believe you’re in a time of great spiritual warfare, and your enemy is trying hard to defeat you. You should study 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. It tells you not to be misled by pretensions that set themselves against your knowledge of God. He loved you enough to die for you while you still hated Him. Do you really think that now that you love Him and want to serve Him He’s going to punish you? Of course not. This is the devil’s work.James 4:7 tells us to resist the devil and he’ll flee from us.
Study Ephesians 4:25-32 & 6:10-18 as well and be sure you’re prepared for battle. Get some people to pray with you and for you and you can defeat this. When you get discouraged read Philippians 4:4-9 and follow Paul’s instructions there. Remember, Jesus also said, “I have come that they might lave life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10)
