What Is God’s Wrath?
Q. In the book of Thessalonians in chapters one and 5 we see scripture that says clearly we are not appointed to wrath. However, how can we be certain that the wrath mentioned doesn’t mean eternal punishment from God? I appreciate your thoughts as always.
A. If you do a word study on the Wrath of God you’ll find it overwhelmingly refers to God’s judgments upon men on Earth, culminating in the Great Day of His Wrath known to us as the End Times judgments, which begin in Rev. 6. Then Rev. 15:1 tells us that with the bowl judgments God’s wrath will be completed. People who say 1 Thes. 1:10and 1 Thes. 5:9 refer to the eternal punishment of non-believers are trying to avoid the conclusion that Paul was teaching a pre-trib rapture doctrine in his letters because it conflicts with their incorrect opinion that the pre-trib rapture is a late comer in the field of eschatology.
