'Al-Qaeda snatched missiles' in Libya
AL-QAEDA'S offshoot in North Africa has snatched surface-to-air missiles from an arsenal in Libya during the civil strife there, Chad's President says. Idriss Deby Itno did not say how many surface-to-air missiles were stolen, but told the African weekly Jeune Afrique that he was "100 per cent sure" of his assertion.

They seized the eastern coastal towns of Ras Lanuf, Brega and Uqayla after pro-Gaddafi forces - under pressure from allied air strikes - withdrew. The rebel gains come after they re-captured the port of Ajdabiya from Col Gaddafi's forces on Saturday.
'J'lem to cut ties with PA if Hamas added to unity gov't'
Israel will stop dealing with the Palestinian Authority if it brings Hamas into the government, a senior government official said Saturday night, a few hours after PA President Mahmoud Abbas met in Ramallah with a senior Hamas delegation for conciliation talks. “Abbas has to choose whether he wants peace with Israel, or peace with Hamas,” the official said. “He can’t have both. If he chooses peace with Hamas it will bury the peace process.”
Radioactivity soars in Japan reactor, workers evacuated
Japanese authorities evacuated workers on Sunday from a reactor building they were working in after radiation in water at the crippled nuclear power plant reached potentially lethal levels, the plant's operator said. Tokyo Electric Power Co said radiation in the water of the No. 2 reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi plant was measured at more than 1,000 millisieverts an hour. That compares with a national safety standard of 250 millisieverts over a year. The US Environmental Protection Agency says a dose of 1,000 millisieverts is enough to cause hemorrhaging
'Iran, Hezbollah assisting in Syria protest suppression'
Israel has raised concerns that Iran and Hezbollah are participating in the suppression of demonstrations in Syria, reported Army Radio on Sunday. The report states that according to a Foreign Ministry official in Jerusalem, local protesters have said that some of the security guards that are dispersing the protests have been speaking in Farsi, and this fact proves the close ties between Damascus and Tehran.
Israel Rocket Defense System Set to Go Online
Israeli aircraft struck a Palestinian rocket squad in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, as a new defense system to protect southern Israel from militants' rockets prepared to go online after years of development, the military said. Two Islamic Jihad militants were killed in the attack and one was critically wounded, said the group, which did not specify whether they were in the process of launching rockets.

Radiation inside Japan nuclear plant rises sharply
Emergency workers struggling to pump contaminated water from Japan's stricken nuclear complex fled one of the troubled reactors Sunday after reporting a huge spike in radioactivity, with levels 10 million times higher than normal in the reactor's cooling system, officials said. The numbers were so high that the worker measuring radiation levels withdrew before taking a second reading, officials said.

Deadly Drug-Resistant Superbug Spreads in California
A multidrug resistant bacterium is infecting a relatively high number of patients in long-term care hospitals in Los Angeles County in California, public health officials say. The bacterium, called carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP), is resistant to almost all antibiotics available to treat the infection. It has been associated with higher rates of death and longer hospitals stays, the researchers say. The bacteria is known to cause pneumonia, bloodstream infections and meningitis. It is difficult, but not impossible, to treat.
