While PM Netanyahu prepares to present new peace initiative, officials in Jerusalem fear Obama Administration to demand clear reference to 1967 borders
In the wake of a major announcement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in May, where sources claim he will unveil a plan for a Palestinian state with provisional borders, US President Obama is signaling that temporary borders may not be enough:
The Obama Administration will not make do with statements that are "not dramatic" alongside a new peace initiative reportedly planned by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, officials in Jerusalem say.
The political sources said they fear that the US Administration will demand clear reference to the 1967 borders as part of the plan and a subsequent Netanyahu speech (Ynetnews.com).
This is not good news for Israel and I have to believe Obama is about to call in his marker for his latest UN veto against a resolution that would have condemned Israeli settlement building in the West Bank. Obama may be on the verge of forcing Israel to conform with international wishes or face the US withholding its veto the next time around. It's not out of the question that the US could join the international community in recognizing a Palestinian state either.
Fatah Central Committee member Nabil Shaat said that a string of countries were ready to recognize a Palestinian state within 1967 borders including countries from the European Union such as France, Spain, Sweden, Portugal and Slovenia.
He also stated that following a US veto of a resolution that would have condemned Israel their (US) role as a Middle East peace keeper would soon be coming to an end. Apparently, other countries from the European Union (France) are looking at introducing their own peace proposal in the very near future.
Ynetnews.com is reporting that 10 more nations will recognize a Palestinian state within 1967 borders this month and 150 by September of this year.
"Yes we are ready (for statehood). Are we ready for September? Absolutely," al-Maliki said. "I think our issue will be raised not only by us but by the international community as a whole, including the United States of America."
The state of Palestine has so far been recognized mostly by South American nations, including Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Guyana and Uruguay (Ynetnews.com).
Most Bible prophecy experts believe Daniel 9:26-27, which speaks of a prince to come who will confirm a seven-year peace accord, will rise up out of the European Union. Could we be on the verge of a shift from the US to the EU as chief Middle East peace brokers?
Frankly, I have always believed that there would be an eventual shift to the European Union, however, it would be highly improbable that they would be able to make the peace accord strong without US backing.
Of course, there is another possibility to this scenario. The "prince that shall come" described in the book of Daniel may simply rise up out of the old Roman Empire (EU) and may not be one of their leaders at this time. However, biblical evidence indicates that he will at some point gain this power and it will make him a ruthless destroyer in the name of peace (Daniel 8:25) as the leader of the new Roman Empire.
For a time, through his policies, he will bring prosperity to the world (Daniel 8:25). And not just to the free world, but I believe his success will spread to all parts of the globe. But it will be short-lived, and as quickly as he rises to prominence, his fall shall be just as swift (Revelation 19:20; Daniel 8:25b):.
