UN delays Gaza flotilla report, following request by Turkey
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday agreed to a request by Turkey to delay the publication of a report on the events of an Israel Defense Forces raid on a flotilla bound for Gaza, in which nine Turkish activists died during clashes with Israeli troops. The UN investigative committee into the raid, headed by Geoffrey Palmer, had been due to publish the report Tuesday.

Getting ready for a wave of coal-plant shutdowns
Over the next 18 months, the Environmental Protection Agency will finalize a flurry of new rules to curb pollution from coal-fired power plants. Mercury, smog, ozone, greenhouse gases, water intake, coal ash—it’s all getting regulated. And, not surprisingly, some lawmakers are grumbling. Industry groups such the Edison Electric Institute, which represents investor-owned utilities, and the American Legislative Exchange Council have dubbed the coming rules “EPA’s Regulatory Train Wreck.”

North Korea seizes South's Mount Kumgang resort assets
North Korea says it is seizing assets at a tourist site jointly operated with South Korea. It has given South Koreans 72 hours to leave the resort at Mount Kumgang, which lies just inside North Korea. The resort used to be a symbol of co-operation between the two Koreas and a key source of hard currency for Pyongyang.

David Cameron says Libyan regime is 'falling apart'
David Cameron has said the regime of Col Muammar Gaddafi is "falling apart and in full retreat". The prime minister said there would "undoubtedly be difficult days ahead", but the Libyan people were "closer to their dream of a better future". He said the UK could be "proud" of the part it had played, but stressed the future of the country - and Col Gaddafi himself - was up to Libyans themselves.

Irene strengthens into hurricane as it heads for Haiti
Tropical Storm Irene has turned into a hurricane - the first of the Atlantic hurricane season - over Puerto Rico. Haiti, where hundreds of thousands of people still live in tents after last year's earthquake, is in Irene's projected path, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. It is next set to hit the Dominican Republic, and may also hit Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas in the US.

Beck: We are entering the age of the miracles of God
The solutions to the problems of our times are not within the reach of political leaders, rather divinity, US pundit Glenn Beck told nearly 3,000 enthusiastic followers in the Caesarea Amphitheater on Sunday night, at the opening event of his four-day Restoring Courage rally. “I’ve spent the last few years trying to find solutions for what is happening in the world,” he said on the backdrop of the pillars of the grand stage. “While there may not be a political solution, the good news is the God of Abraham ain’t running for office,” he said to loud applause.

England is NOT in moral decline, blasts Blair as he claims both Tories and Labour are wrong about reasons for riots
Tony Blair yesterday took a swipe at David Cameron’s ‘muddle-headed’ handling of the fallout from the riots. In a rare intervention in domestic politics, the former Prime Minister suggested Mr Cameron was wrong to blame the riots on a general ‘moral decline’ in Britain. ‘I think we are in danger of the wrong analysis leading to the wrong diagnosis, leading to the wrong prescription,’ he said.

Iran and Saudi Arabia helped Al-Qaeda carry out 9/11 attacks, claims new book
As the 10th anniversary of 9/11 approaches, two authors who’ve analysed thousands of documents relating to the attack conclude that both Iran and Saudi Arabia helped Al-Qaeda carry it out. In the aftermath, both countries publicly stated that they’d fight terrorism and expressed their condolences, but The Eleventh Day, by Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan, produces a compelling argument that they were actually complicit in the attacks.
