Beginnings
In the beginning God created the heavens
and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
As we open our Bibles, we start in the Book of Genesis. From the very first verse, we see it is the book of beginnings. Is it the beginning of God? No, not the beginning of God. He has always existed.
It is the beginning of man: And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (Genesis 2:7).
It is the beginning of woman: Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman (Genesis 2:22).
The beginning of marriage: And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh” (Genesis 2:23).
Along with the good beginnings come the bad. First, sin entered into the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve disobeyed God: And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” (Genesis 3:11).
Then came the first murder: Now Cain talked with Abel his brother and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him (Genesis 4:8).
Everything has a beginning in the Book of Genesis. From this beginning, we can see God’s perfect plan for man and how man’s disobedience altered that perfection. We have a choice; walk in God’s perfect will as He intended, or in His permissive will and be like Adam and Eve. Where do you want to be?
We must read our Bibles like men digging for
hidden treasure.
